How to apply
You apply for the Rector's, social and disability scholarships and the hardship grant the same way. The documents and deadlines differ - you will find them with each benefit below.
Register and print the application in USOSweb
Fill in the form in your USOSweb account, then print and sign it. Registering it in the system is not yet submitting the application.
Submit the application with documentation
Submit the signed application with attachments at the Scholarship Benefits Office (building A1, rooms 1 and 2); students of the Jelenia Góra Branch submit at the Branch Office. If something is missing, you will be asked in USOSweb to complete it within 7 days - otherwise the application will not be considered.
Collect the decision
You get a notification on your university email and collect the decision in USOSweb. Without that the scholarship is not paid. A decision takes up to a month, up to two in complex cases.
Rector’s scholarship
Who can get it
The Rector's scholarship goes to students with outstanding academic results, scientific or artistic achievements, or sporting results in competitions at least at national level. You apply from 21 to 31 October. The detailed criteria and scoring are set out in Annex 3 to the Benefits Regulations for Students.
What counts
The arithmetic average of your grades from the last two semesters - at least 4.00 - excluding seminars, physical education and internships. Plus documented scientific, artistic and sporting achievements. For the average you get as many points as its decimal part (e.g. 4.57 gives 57 points), and each recognised achievement adds points.
At most 10% of a programme
Each programme has its own ranking list. The scholarship goes to no more than 10% of the programme's students - those with the most points.
First year of studies
In the first year of first-cycle studies, the scholarship goes to international olympiad laureates, central-level olympiad laureates and finalists, and medallists of at least the Polish Championship - if admitted in the year they passed the matura. In the first year of second-cycle studies, your average and achievements from the last two semesters of first-cycle studies count.
Who cannot apply
A student who is repeating a semester or waiting to repeat it, is conditionally enrolled, did not pass the previous year by the end of the exam session, or has been suspended from scholarships as a disciplinary penalty.
UEW Own Scholarship Fund scholarship
Besides the Rector's scholarship, in some years the University awards a one-off scholarship for a high average from the UEW Own Scholarship Fund. Details are below, in the section on that scholarship.

UEW Own Scholarship Fund scholarship
A one-off scholarship for a high grade average
A separate scholarship the University pays from its own fund once a year. Only your average counts: every exam and course grade from the last academic year (1 October to 30 September), fails included. Every recipient gets the same amount, up to PLN 10,000.

Check the threshold for your programme
When the Rector opens a call (by an order issued by 15 October), it sets the minimum average for each programme and the email addresses to send applications to.

Send the application from your university email
Send the completed application (the template is in the BIP) from your University mailbox by 30 November. Late applications are not considered.

Wait for the ranking
Applications are assessed by a committee that includes a Student Government representative. The Rector awards scholarships based on the average ranking.
Have academic achievements? Attach them
When several people have the same average and there is not enough money for all, academic achievements decide: publications, an award for a thesis in an external competition, or a conference presentation confirmed by an abstract. Attach copies of the pages showing the author, title, date of publication and ISBN/ISSN, or a confirmation from the publisher. If you list an achievement without a document, the committee will not consider the whole application.
There is not a call every year
If the fund holds less than PLN 100,000 on 30 September, the Rector does not open a call that academic year.
Social scholarship
So that money does not get in the way of your studies
The social scholarship is available to students in a difficult financial situation. What counts is income per person, calculated under the Benefits Regulations for Students. The income threshold is set by law (45% of the minimum wage); the meter below shows the current amount.

Check whether you are within the threshold
Enter your family’s net income and the number of people. The meter works out the monthly income per person and shows where you stand against the PLN 2,099.70 threshold for the 2026/2027 academic year.
The meter is a simplified calculation, not a ruling. It shows roughly where you stand against the threshold but does not apply every income rule. The Scholarship Committee - three students delegated by the Student Government and two University staff members - decides on the award after checking your application and documents.
Total net income (after tax and contributions) of you and your family members in 2025. The regulations use the tax year preceding the academic year.
Count yourself, your spouse, your parents or guardians, and the children they support: under 18, in education up to age 26, and children with disabilities regardless of age.
Monthly income per person
Enter the income and the number of people to see the result.
The scale has two markers: PLN 823.00 (up to this amount a certificate from the social welfare centre, OPS, is required) and PLN 2,099.70 (the social scholarship threshold).
Financial independence
If you do not share a household with either parent, in some cases you do not declare their income. One condition: you have a stable source of income and your average monthly income in the previous tax year and in the current year is at least PLN 1,866.40. Others include being 26 or older, being married, supporting a child, or having reached adulthood in foster care (Section 15(2) of the Benefits Regulations for Students). You then count only your own, your spouse's and your children's income.
Income is officially calculated under Annex 2 to the Benefits Regulations for Students (Rules for calculating income).

Applying for the first time?
First-time applicants must submit a printed, signed application together with an income declaration and full documentation confirming income.
Adult sibling who is studying
If you have an adult sibling who is studying, attach a current certificate of continued education to your summer-semester application.
Change in family situation
Report changes such as a death, the birth of a child, an adult sibling finishing their education or getting married - they affect the amount of the benefit.
An application before each semester
The social scholarship is awarded per semester, so you apply twice a year: for the winter semester from 25 September to 8 October, for the summer semester from 7 to 21 March.
Increased scholarship
In particularly justified cases you can receive a higher social scholarship if you give reasons and document them. The increase is set by the Rector in agreement with the Student Government.
Disability scholarship
A benefit independent of income
The scholarship is available to students who hold a current disability certificate. It does not depend on your financial situation and can be received alongside other benefits. You apply from 1 October to 15 June.
Which certificate counts
A disability certificate, a certificate of the degree of disability (mild, moderate or severe), or a certificate from a ZUS medical examiner that the law treats as equivalent. Attach the questionnaire from the document list. If the certificate expires during the year, the scholarship is paid until it expires - with a new certificate, submit a new application.
The amount depends on the degree
The higher the degree of disability, the higher the scholarship. If the certificate does not state a degree, it counts as mild. The amounts are set by the Rector in agreement with the Student Government.
Hardship grant
Immediate support in a sudden situation
A hardship grant is a one-off benefit when you temporarily find yourself in a difficult life situation, e.g. after the death of someone close, during a serious illness, after a fire or flood, or after the birth of a child. You get it independently of the social scholarship.
When to apply
Without delay, no later than 3 months after the event (applications are accepted from 1 October to 15 September). Attach evidence, e.g. invoices in your name, medical certificates, or certificates from an office or the police. For a serious illness, an opinion from a medical specialist is required.
At most twice a year
You can receive a hardship grant no more than twice in an academic year, and only once for the same reason.
FAQ
Scholarships - frequently asked questions
My application was refused. What can I do?
You have 14 days from receiving the decision. Against a decision of the Scholarship Committee you appeal to the Appeals Scholarship Committee (through the Scholarship Committee); against a decision of the Rector you request a reconsideration. The instructions at the end of the decision say which applies to you. If you need help, contact the Student Ombudsman.
I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?
Only if the delay was not your fault. Within 7 days of the cause ending, request reinstatement of the deadline, show it was not your fault, and attach the scholarship application itself.
I study two programmes. On which one do I get a scholarship?
You receive benefits on one programme only - the one you choose. If you also get a decision on another programme or at another university, you have 7 days from receiving it to resign from one of them.
Can I receive several benefits at once?
Yes, if you meet the conditions of each. One limit: the social and Rector's scholarships together cannot exceed 38% of a professor's salary. If the total is higher, you get the full social scholarship and the Rector's scholarship is reduced accordingly.
How does a hardship grant differ from a social scholarship?
A hardship grant is one-off help in a sudden, temporarily difficult life event, awarded independently of the social scholarship.
